As I’m taking a pause from the demanding voice of news, I’m running full-speed into the seductive arms of still photography.

Most of my career has been built around video: 2018 marks almost a decade since I picked up my first professional video camera.

One of my first live broadcasts, 2010

My first shoot post-news came in the form of lovely Brazilians.

I photographed one of their Saturday night events at The Hole in the Wall.

Their energy was contagious; their joy, obvious.

Samba is one of the icons of Brazilian national identity, a way they express their cultural pride. Samba is a lively, rhythmical dance that’s been danced in Brazil since the late 16thCentury.

San Diego has one of the biggest populations of Brazilians in California, and their community is strong.

They love coming together to celebrate life, and I love trying to freeze their moment of joy into a perfect snapshot for them to remember that feeling forever.
